RESCHEDULED!
Many of you have expressed concerns about the local forecasts for this coming Saturday, and we share those concerns. While the Big Shell Beach Cleanup is a “Rain or Shine” event, current predictions suggest high tides, possibly reaching the dunes. This is due to the strong NE winds and higher than normal tides. A predicted system of low pressure sitting offshore, combined with these factors increases the chance for waves pushing water up to the dunes. In this case, driving would be near impossible and the safety of our volunteers, and their personal property, would be at risk.
As a safety concern for our thousands of volunteers, Friends of Padre, together in consultation with Padre Island National Seashore, has made the difficult decision to reschedule the 2025 Big Shell Beach Cleanup. We have already begun discussions with the NPS to find a suitable date in Spring 2025 to reschedule this widely supported beach cleanup.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but please know that we came to this decision after much deliberation. Ultimately, the safety of our volunteers must come first and we hope everyone understands the reasoning behind our actions.

The 29th Annual Billy Sandifer Cleanup wrap up numbers are in for 2024!

The totals are in! We had 2,000 volunteers remove 28 tons of trash from 30 miles of beach! Thanks to everyone who made this possible, the volunteers, sponsors and the Padre Island National Seashore personnel. See you next year for the 30th annual Billy Sandifer Big Shell Beach Cleanup!

 The primary function of Friends of Padre is to fund and organize the annual Billy Sandifer Big Shell Beach Cleanup in perpetuity. Beginning in 1995, the Big Shell Beach Cleanup occurs once a year in the Big Shell portion of the Padre Island National Seashore (PINS). Each year, hundreds of volunteers dedicate a Saturday to removing trash from this rugged, desolate stretch of beach. Since its inception, over 17,425 volunteers have removed 3,258,000 pounds of trash from this remote and wild stretch of 4 Wheel Drive Only beach.
